Michael Portillo visits the Abbey to make programme about King Harold

Michael Portillo, (former Member of Parliament and Government Minister and now broadcaster and star of “This Week” with Andrew Neil), was in Waltham Abbey on Friday, recording a programme about King Harold.

The programme is called “The Things That We Forgot to Remember  –  Harold Godwinson”, and questions why we should remember someone who lost a battle!!!!!!

Author and King Harold Day supporter, Helen Hollick, was one of those Michael interviewed.   Helen, of course, wrote the historical novel “Harold the King” and was the guest speaker at our September supper evening.

First they stood by the Harold Memorial Stone to make the recording, and noted all the floral tributes which were put there on King Harold Day, but the traffic noise was such that they decided to go into the Abbey to complete it.

The programme is to be on BBC Radio 4 on 15th November at 8.00pm, (subject to confirmation).
